Prof. Clemens Thielen and Dr. Jan Boeckmann EURO Prize for OR for the Common Good (EPOCG)

The two scientists Prof. Clemens Thielen from the Professorship of Complex Networks (CNW) of the HSWT at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) and Dr. Jan Boeckmann (formerly CNW, now Johannes Kepler University Linz) were awarded the EURO Prize for OR for the Common Good 2024 by the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO) at the beginning of July for their research article resulting from their project on municipal flood mitigation. The prize recognizes an outstanding contribution to overcoming global challenges through the application of operations research (OR). In their research paper “New approaches in municipal flood protection”, Prof. Thielen and Dr. Boeckmann deal with the consequences of intensive heavy rainfall events and present optimization techniques that can support decision-making in planning of precautionary measures for flash floods caused by heavy rain.
